I journeyed to Los Banos today to fix a payphone and made the little side jaunt to San Joaquin National Cemetery so that I could pay my respects to Papa Jim and also take a picture of his headstone. There is no grass as yet around the area but that will be filled in presently. The sprinklers had just been turned off hence the shadows on the monument. It is a peaceful and scenic area and a fitting resting place for Papa Jim among other military veterans who served their country so well.
Brooklyn and Abby are visiting for the week. Jamie and family flew to San Diego last week to enjoy an Olson reunion and then shipped the two oldest up to us. We have been to the movies to see Monsters University Inc. and to the aquarium (well, they went, I stayed) and to thrift stores (again, they, not I) and have watched the Harry Potter Movies 2 and 3(3 with special permission from parents for Abby to watch) and various other movies and cartoons. They are enjoying playing in the backyard with the now familiar family heirloom tepee. Tomorrow we will go to the beach. They are a joy and delight to have with us. We will probably do more of this as time goes by inviting our older grandchildren to stay with us in the off reunion year summers.
