Two weekends ago the BYU-Idaho Symphonia came to town to perform at Sherwood Hall. They were on a two week whirlwind tour of Northern California and performed almost nightly in different towns and cities. A Symphonia is a little larger than a chamber orchestra. There were 27 performers and various support staff to house and feed, so after the Sherwood performance, we picked up the two young men pictured above and brought them home to spend the evening with us. Kellen Maxwell is on the left and Matthew Shumway is on the right. Both are returned missionaries and served in Brazil and Carlsbad, California respectively. We chatted briefly in the evening, they slept, awoke, ate breakfast with us and then rejoined the group at the Salinas Chapel to catch the bus to their next performance which was to be in Santa Cruz. Michael actually plays with the Orchestra at Temple Square. Both are hoping to pursue musical careers, Michael as a professional, and Kellen as a Music instructor. We enjoyed their spirit although we were not able to hear the group perform. It frankly was not well publicized. Oh well.
