On a sad note, Lois Robinson, long time Willow Street resident (early 1950's), and dear friend to Mom and I and our whole family, peacefully passed away in her home on Monday morning. She was a gentle soul widowed for over 30 years. Her son Bert lives two doors up from us and has also been there forever, and her Granddaughter Shelly and husband live 4 doors down and have rented the house from Grandmother Robinson for the past 8 years. It is hard to describe the loss of a neighbor who was just simply always there. She was more than 'neighborly' and took a keen interest in all our family members. Her grandson Russ and Jamie spent time together when Russ would visit with his parents. Towards the end, Jan and I had the privilege of putting her morning paper either up on the ledge or through the mailbox hole so that she could retrieve it without having to stoop to do so. For this little kindness we received a fine box of 'Whitman Samplers' every Christmas as her way of saying thanks. We made a point to visit with her on occasion and update her on family and grandchildren. She was a guest in our home for all major 'block' happenings, ie, missions, Neece's 80th Birthday party, etc. Our kids visited with her also from time to time, and even some of the grand kids. Craig and I were on the scene last October when she took a nasty fall in the kitchen. We also visited with her this past Christmas. I chatted with her in the kitchen about the philanthropic endeavor she was involved with, and Craig took a tour of the house with Bert as the tour guide. Obviously, she had many many nicknack's accumulated over a 90+ year life, and Craig enjoyed learning about some of them.
We will say our final goodbyes this coming Monday. She was a lady full of humble reassuring faith and loved the Savior Jesus Christ. Always an optimist, always ready to help, always full of charity for her fellowmen, she will be missed.
