Last Sunday I turned 59. I just reached 50 8 years ago. What happened? Well, in that time span we gained both a new daughter and son in law plus 9 wonderful Grandchildren. Jamie and Anita were already married and little Brooklyn was about to be launched into the world. Two more college graduates emerged, and a son in law completed his Masters from Cornell University. Jobs have been lost, and found. Quilts have been given for birth and one and three year milestones, while many more quilts lie around the house awaiting bodies to be wrapped around. (We need grand kids this summer!!! I can't use them all). Two Granddaughter baptisms have occurred, both a privilege to attend. New callings in Church(and Prison)- A new Prophet and Stake President, who will by the way be released this summer-Becoming a Temple Ordinance Worker-New friends, old friends, some which have departed-A decade without my Mom or
Neecypoo, the title by which she is most fondly remembered-A decade more with my sweetheart-Becoming empty Nester's ( but don't ask Craig right now about that)-moving Papa and Nana here to Salinas and staying close to them in their declining years-Serving where needed and hopefully keeping the faith-Noticing my athletic and musical skills begin to decline(oh well) and many more events that make this earth life so interesting.
I do know the Gospel is truer than ever. Jesus is my personal Savior and the one by and through whom my family can be exalted. In all the world of confusion, turmoil, doubt, cynicism and fear, nothing is clearer and simpler than his declaration, "If ye love me, keep my commandments". I am grateful for more commandments, more revelations, more opportunities to serve, and more covenants to make, remember, and be blessed by. Next year it is the big 60. Bring it on!!!!!
Here is some fan mail received with smiles and love and warmth. Thanks to all who called and sang and wished and made fun of my 'old' ways.
